Wilson had a great career in cricket before coming to administrative work. Starting age-wise, went to Brigade Cricket Club in 1982. The legendary Roy Torrance took over the role of captain there after his retirement. He played in five Irish Senior Cup finals for the club, winning two. After retiring from cricket in 2001, Wilson was the Irish North-West selector for two seasons.
