India A emerged victorious in the inaugural Women’s Emerging Asia Cup, defeating their Bangladeshi counterparts by a margin of 31 runs in a thrilling final held at Mong Kok’s Mission Road Ground in Hong Kong.
After India set a modest target of 128 runs, Bangladesh faced a batting collapse and was bowled out for just 96 runs in 19.2 overs.
With only three Bangladeshi batters reaching double figures, Nahida Akter contributed the highest unbeaten score of 17 runs off 22 balls in the lower-middle order.
Opener Shathi Rani made a quick start with 13 runs off 11 deliveries, but Bangladesh lost momentum early on, losing two wickets within 3.2 overs. From that point on, they failed to establish any significant partnerships and kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
Shreyanka Patil shone with the ball for India A, claiming remarkable figures of 4 for 13.
In the first innings, Bangladesh bowlers put up a decent performance after being asked to field. Nahida Akter and Sultana Khatun both took two wickets for the Tigresses.
Bangladesh secured a thrilling six-run victory over Pakistan in the semifinal on Monday to advance to the final.
