The rape case against Lamichan was filed on September 6. He then went on to play in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). The next day, the Kathmandu District Court issued an arrest warrant. Soon after, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) removed him from the leadership of the team.

The help of Interpol was taken to bring the accused Lamichane back to the country. However, he was arrested and taken into police custody soon after landing at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan Airport. On October 31 last year, Lamichan was charged in court. In the charge sheet, Lamichhan was accused of raping a 17-year-old girl. If found guilty, Lamichhan could be sentenced to 10 to 12 years in prison under Nepalese law.
