In a high-scoring second one-day international at the Mangaung Oval, David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne delivered sensational centuries, guiding Australia to a commanding 123-run win over South Africa on Saturday.

Warner crafted a masterful 106, while Labuschagne showcased his prowess with a remarkable 124, forming the backbone of Australia’s formidable total of 392 for eight after being asked to bat first.

Leg-spinner Adam Zampa played a pivotal role in South Africa’s downfall, snaring four wickets for 48 runs as the home team was dismissed for 269 in just the 42nd over.

Quinton de Kock (45) and skipper Temba Bavuma (46) ignited South Africa’s innings with an explosive 81-run partnership in nine overs. However, De Kock’s dismissal, caught and bowled by Nathan Ellis, halted their progress. Zampa’s twin strikes in consecutive overs further dented South Africa’s hopes, removing Bavuma and Aiden Markram from the equation.

Australian captain Mitchell Marsh commended his team’s performance, stating, “Our intent and execution tonight was as good as it gets.” Warner and Travis Head exhibited their dominance against South Africa’s pace bowlers, amassing 109 runs off just 72 balls during their opening partnership. Head contributed a brisk 64 off 36 balls, laced with nine fours and three sixes.

Labuschagne, who previously played a match-winning knock of 80 not out in the series opener, continued his stellar form. His partnership with Warner was crucial, amassing 151 runs for the third wicket off 124 balls. Warner reached his 20th one-day international century off 85 deliveries, while Labuschagne was even more rapid, achieving his second one-day international century in just 80 balls.

Reflecting on his performance, Labuschagne emphasized that his non-selection for the World Cup was beyond his control. He stated, “I am concentrating on enjoying my cricket and playing as well as I can.”
