Soumya Sarker and Sheikh Mahedi Selected in Bangladesh Squad for Emerging Teams Asia Cup

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a 16-member squad for the upcoming Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2023, to be held in Sri Lanka next month. The squad includes the inclusion of Soumya Sarker and Sheikh Mahedi, along with Zakir Hasan and Mahmudul Hasan Joy, who recently played in the one-off Test against Afghanistan.

Saif Hasan has been appointed as the captain of the team, with Zakir Hasan serving as his deputy. The squad also features Naim Sheikh, who has been recalled to the Tigers’ ODI side for the upcoming series against Afghanistan in July. Youngsters like Akbar Ali and Parvez Hossain Emon have also been named in the squad.

In the tournament, Bangladesh A will commence their campaign against Sri Lanka A on July 14. The group also consists of Afghanistan A and Oman. The other group, Group B, comprises Pakistan A, India A, Nepal, and the UAE.

Bangladesh will face Oman and Afghanistan in their subsequent group matches on July 16 and 18 respectively. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals, which will be held on July 21, with the final scheduled for July 23.
