In a remarkable turn of events, former South African leg-spinner Imran Tahir, at the age of 44, achieved a historic milestone by captaining the Guyana Amazon Warriors to their first-ever Caribbean Premier League (CPL) title. This stunning victory came at the expense of the Trinibago Knight Riders, co-owned by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, in the CPL 2023 final.

The Amazon Warriors, under Tahir’s leadership, displayed their mettle early by winning the toss and opting to bowl first. Imran Tahir and Gudakesh Motie delivered crucial economical spells, while Dwaine Pretorius shone with a four-wicket haul.

The Knight Riders, after a 24-run opening stand between Chadwick Walton and Mark Deyal, faced a series of setbacks, losing wickets at regular intervals. Notably, three wickets fell to seam bowling during the powerplay, including the crucial dismissal of Nicholas Pooran. Captain Kieron Pollard’s departure immediately after the powerplay further compounded their woes.
