The highly anticipated match between Pakistan and India in the Asia Cup 2023 was marred by continuous rainfall, forcing officials to call off the game for the day. Fortunately, a reserve day had been allocated for this crucial fixture, allowing the teams to resume the match on Monday from where it was halted. At the rain interruption, India had posted a score of 147/2 in 24.1 overs.

The decision to host pivotal matches in Colombo was primarily attributed to Jay Shah’s influence as the ACC President. This choice faced severe backlash on social media platforms, with fans expressing their frustration at the rain-disrupted matches.

Disappointed fans took to social media, particularly X (formerly known as Twitter), to voice their displeasure after the match’s suspension. Unfortunately, there is a 90% chance of further rain interruptions on Monday when the teams are set to resume their battle.

Jay Shah addressed the ongoing situation and shed light on the decision to relocate the Asia Cup 2023 away from Pakistan. In a press release, he explained, “All the full members, media rights holders, and in-stadia rights holders were initially hesitant to commit to hosting the entire tournament in Pakistan. This reluctance stemmed from concerns related to the security and economic situation prevailing in the country.” He further emphasized that the decision aimed to prioritize player well-being and the sport’s interests, ensuring a competitive tournament while preparing teams for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
