After losing the toss and electing to bat first at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Tuesday, hosts Sri Lanka lost 3 wickets for 34 runs. Charith Asalanka shared a 101-run stand in 100 balls with Dhananjaya de Silva for the fourth wicket. De Silva returned with 60 off 61 balls with the help of seven boundaries for the team’s 135 runs.

After that, Asalanka fought alone. Before returning to the dressing room as the eighth batsman, he returned with a maiden century (110) off 106 balls with 10 fours and a six in the 15th ODI of his career. Sri Lanka has bowled out for 258 in 49 overs thanks to Asalanka’s century.

Chasing the target, Australia lost the wicket of Captain Aaron Finch for just 3 runs in the third over. The other opener David Warner then shared a 63-run partnership with Mitchell Marsh. Marsh returned with 26 off 27 balls. David Warner then holds one end of the wicket. Marnus Labuschagne (14), Alex Carey (19), Travis Head (27), and Glenn Maxwell (1) took part in the march to and from the other end.

Australia needed 67 runs from 13 overs at the end to win. David Warner came out in such a situation of the game. He left the field with the regret of scoring a century of just 1 run even after a brilliant game from the start of the innings.

After Warner was dismissed for 99, the match tilted towards Sri Lanka. But pacer Pat Cummins tried his best to give the team a win.

Australia needed 25 runs off the last 12 balls. When Cummins was dismissed in the 49th over, the Aussies were virtually knocked out of the match. Chasing a target of 19 runs in the last round, Mathew Kuhnyman hit boundaries off the over-bowled second, fourth, and fifth balls by Lankan pacer Dasun Shanaka to save the game.

Australia needed 5 runs to win off the last ball. Matthew Kuhnyman was dismissed for a six. Sri Lanka won the match by 5 runs.
