This remarkable venue will be erected in East Meadow, a charming hamlet nestled on Long Island, around 30 miles to the east of Manhattan. Eisenhower Park, a sprawling 930-acre expanse, will play host to this cricketing spectacle. It is expected that this iconic location will set the stage for the much-awaited clash between India and Pakistan.

The decision to opt for Eisenhower Park comes after intense negotiations between the ICC and New York City officials. Initially, plans were in place to construct a similar pop-up stadium in Van Cortlandt Park, located in the Bronx. However, the ICC had to shift gears due to strong opposition from local residents and a cricket league associated with the park.

As the plans for the Bronx venue fizzled out, Nassau County emerged as the beneficiary. The ICC swiftly initiated discussions with Nassau County representatives, who oversee Eisenhower Park. This venue is now slated to host the much-anticipated India vs. Pakistan match during the T20 World Cup 2024.

There has been a growing clamor within the ICC to promote cricket in the United States, which boasts the world’s largest media market and the fastest-growing cricket market globally. In terms of media rights’ monetary value, the USA is believed to be among the top four countries for ICC events. Consequently, the selection of the United States as a co-host for the T20 World Cup marked a significant step forward.

Despite these strides, the state of cricketing infrastructure in the USA has been a longstanding concern for the ICC. While Major League Cricket (MLC) inaugurated its flagship 15,000-seat stadium in Dallas for its debut season, the country has few permanent floodlit state-of-the-art cricket facilities beyond this and Central Broward Park in Miami.

The selection of Eisenhower Park is poised to alleviate the ICC’s concerns regarding venues in the USA. The ICC has allocated approximately 20 matches to be played in the country during the T20 World Cup, and these will likely be divided among the three available venues. Church Street Park in Morrisville, North Carolina, another MLC venue, is also under consideration for hosting World Cup matches, although it lacks permanent facilities.
