Usama Mir Joins Manchester Originals for The Hundred 2023

Pakistan all-rounder, Usama Mir, has been enlisted by the Manchester Originals as a replacement player for the upcoming edition of The Hundred in 2023. He will be taking the spot of Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga, who will be participating in the forthcoming Lanka Premier League 2023.

Mir’s recent performances in the Vitality Blast 2023 for Worcestershire were noteworthy, as he claimed an impressive 19 wickets in just 11 matches, showcasing his skills with a commendable economy rate of 7.29.

In the previous draft for The Hundred held on March 23, Welsh Fire acquired the services of Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf, with Afridi having a reserve price of £100,000 and Rauf at £60,000.

In other selections, Oval Invincibles secured the services of Ihsanullah from Multan Sultans for £40,000.

Birmingham Phoenix retained Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan for £100,000, adding him to their squad alongside international cricketers such as Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, and Liam Livingstone.

The competition is scheduled to take place from August 1 to 27 this year. Trent Rockets emerged as the victors in the men’s competition last year, defeating Manchester Originals in the final match.

Pakistani leg spinner Usama Mir has been re-signed by Worcestershire for the remaining matches of the 2023 Vitality Blast tournament. Usama made a significant impact in the first three Blast matches, showcasing his skills with both bat and ball while filling in for New Zealand all-rounder Mitchell Santner, who was occupied with IPL commitments.

Due to an unfortunate Achilles injury sidelining Michael Bracewell for the next six to eight months, Usama will now assume the position of Worcestershire’s other overseas player. Paul Pridgeon, Chairman of the Worcestershire Cricket Steering Group, expressed satisfaction with Usama’s performance and confirmed that he has signed on for the remaining seven group games of the Blast.

“We are confident Usama will do a good job,” said Pridgeon. “We are disappointed for Michael and hope he is back on the cricket field sooner rather than later.”

Usama himself expressed his joy at fulfilling his dream of playing county cricket and being available for the rest of the tournament. He looks forward to contributing to the team’s success and maintaining a strong position in the competition.

In addition to his involvement in the Vitality Blast, Usama made his debut in the LV=Insurance County Championship for Worcestershire during their match against Sussex at the 1st Central County Ground, where he took two wickets.
