Franchise cricket tournament WPL (Women’s Premier League) is sitting in India with women cricketers. This is the first time in the T20 tournament that players are bought and sold in an auction. A total of five teams are participating in the maiden edition of the Women’s IPL.

The opening ceremony of the Women’s IPL was also held in a grand manner at the DY Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday night. Cricket and entertainment lovers unite to the dance beats of Bollywood actresses Kiara Advani and Kriti Sanon on stage. Punjabi pop star AP Dhillon was impressed with the theme song of the event.

After the colorful performance, the officials of the Indian Cricket Board took the stage. After that, the captains of the five teams were called.

Delhi Capitals’ Meg Lanning, Gujarat Titans’ Beth Mooney, Mumbai Indians’ Harmanpreet Kaur, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Smriti Mandhana, and UP Warriors’ captain Alyssa Healy. Later they unveiled the Women’s Premier League trophy together.
Apart from the opening venue, all the matches of the tournament will be played at another venue. A total of 20 matches will be held with the participation of 87 domestic and foreign cricketers. The competition will last for 23 days.

The first season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) or Women’s IPL is going to start in March. 9 cricketers from Bangladesh have got a place in the auction of the franchise tournament. The auction will be held on February 13. The first edition of Women’s IPL will run from March 4 to 26. A total of 1,525 Pramila cricketers registered to participate in the player draft. Among them, 409 people have made it to the final list. 90 will be sold at auction from here. A maximum of 30 people will get a chance in foreign quota. Out of 409 people who made it to the final list, 246 are from India.

The remaining 163 cricketers are foreigners. The 9 finalists from Bangladesh are Salma Khatun, Swarna Akhtar, Jahanara Alam, Rumana Ahmed, Nahida Akhtar, Lata Mondal, Ritu Moni, Sobhana Moshtari, and Nigar Sultana. Among them, Salma and Rumana have the highest base price of Rs 40 lakh. Apart from this, the base price of Swarna Akter is Rs. 20 lakhs. The base price of the remaining 6 cricketers is 30 lakh rupees. Five franchises ie Delhi, Mumbai, Gujarat, Bangalore, and Lucknow. Players will be in the running to be bought at the auction to be held in Mumbai. There will be a total of 22 matches in the Women’s Premier League to be held for the first time. These matches will be held at Brabourne and DY Patil stadiums in Mumbai.
