Tim Paine, the former captain of the Australian Test team, is making a comeback to the Big Bash League (BBL) arena with a fresh perspective. Paine has taken up the role of assistant coach for the Adelaide Strikers, adding a new dimension to his cricketing journey.

Hailing from Tasmania, Paine boasts an illustrious cricketing career. With experience leading Australia in 23 out of his 35 Test matches, his leadership skills are widely acknowledged. Paine’s BBL connection is equally impressive, having represented the Hobart Hurricanes in 44 matches and captained the team in 25 of those games.

Adelaide Strikers’ current coach, the renowned former Australian fast bowler Jason Gillespie, views Paine’s transition from player to coach as a strategic advantage. Gillespie believes Paine’s involvement will significantly elevate the team’s performance.

Gillespie mentioned, “Tim has all the skills to be a fantastic coach. The experience he will bring is sure to help our players in all facets of the game and bring more positive elements to the way we play.”

Having recently retired from first-class cricket, Paine is well-placed to channel his knowledge and experiences into strengthening the Adelaide Strikers. His multi-faceted expertise is set to infuse a renewed energy and dynamism into the team’s strategies.

Paine’s influence goes beyond the Strikers. Alongside his role with the Strikers, he is part-time coaching the Australian U19s and the Australia A team. The latter is preparing for a series against New Zealand A in the upcoming week.

During the Australia A series, Paine will be mentored by another former Australia teammate, Adam Voges. Voges, renowned for his coaching roles with Western Australia and the Perth Scorchers, will guide Paine through this new phase of his coaching journey.

In his 44 BBL appearances, Paine showcased his batting prowess by accumulating 1129 runs, which included eight half-centuries. His highest score of 91 underscored his ability to make a significant impact on the BBL stage.
