Emiratis Secure Victory with 26 Balls to Spare

The United Arab Emirates, led by Captain Muhammad Waseem’s commanding performance of 55 runs, secured a remarkable seven-wicket triumph against New Zealand in Dubai. This victory allowed the UAE to equalize the three-match Twenty20 series.

Opting to bowl first, the UAE faced a target of 143 runs. Their opening batsman Aryansh Sharma departed without contributing to the score. However, Muhammad Waseem and Vriitya Aravind (25) orchestrated a partnership that stabilized the UAE’s innings.

Muhammad Waseem’s 29-ball innings included four boundaries and three sixes. His impactful knock came to an end when he was caught out by left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner, skying the ball to extra cover.

Asif Khan took charge in the latter stages, finishing unbeaten on 48 runs. He delivered a powerful performance, hammering three boundaries off New Zealand skipper Tim Southee in the 16th over, securing an iconic victory for the UAE with 26 balls remaining.

In New Zealand’s innings, Mark Chapman’s contribution of 63 runs stood out. The team managed to reach a total of 142/8. Opener Chad Bowes and Jimmy Neesham, each with scores of 21, were the only other players to reach double figures for the visiting team.

UAE’s left-arm spinner Aayan Afzal Khan left a significant mark on the match. He dismantled New Zealand’s top-order by dismissing Santner and Dane Cleaver in successive deliveries. Khan then claimed Bowes’ wicket through a stumping, tallying impressive figures of 3/20.

Having lost the first match of the series by 19 runs on Thursday, New Zealand found themselves in a tied situation as the UAE leveled the series with their resounding victory.
