2014 – The Tragic Loss of Phillip Hughes

The cricket world was shaken to its core when Phillip Hughes passed away at just 25. During a Sheffield Shield match in Sydney, Hughes was struck on the side of his head by a bouncer while attempting a hook shot. The blow caused a severe cerebral haemorrhage, and although he underwent emergency surgery after being rushed from the SCG, he never regained consciousness. 1983 – Desmond Haynes’ Rare 'Handled the Ball' Dismissal

In the fourth Test between India and West Indies in Bombay, Desmond Haynes became only the fourth batter in Test history to be given out handled the ball. The incident didn’t affect the match outcome much, as the game ended in a high-scoring draw featuring hundreds from Dilip Vengsarkar and Viv Richards. Despite Imran Tahir’s five-wicket haul in the second innings, India set an unreachable target of 310. Ashwin’s seven wickets in the final innings sealed the result.

2017 – Ashwin Becomes the Fastest to 300 Test Wickets

R. Ashwin reached the landmark of 300 Test wickets in just his 54th match—the quickest in history. The milestone came during India’s dominant win over Sri Lanka in Nagpur, where India piled up 610 for 6 with centuries from Vijay, Pujara, Rohit Sharma, and a double hundred from Virat Kohli. Sri Lanka folded for 205 and 166 as India stormed to one of their biggest Test victories.

2016 – A Rare Tie in Women’s ODIs

South Africa came agonizingly close to their first-ever win over Australia in women’s internationals. Sri Lanka suffered a harsh innings defeat against India in a one-off Test in Chandigarh. India’s seemingly modest 288 was enough as Sri Lanka managed just 82 and 198 in reply. Venkatapathy Raju was outstanding for India, taking eight wickets in a marathon spell. The win ended India’s 15-Test drought after a barren overseas stretch.
