Imran’s stats speak volumes — an allrounder’s dream with a batting average of 37.69 and bowling average of 22.81, putting him above his famous contemporaries: Botham, Hadlee, and Kapil Dev. During his last decade in international cricket, he averaged 50 with the bat and 19 with the ball across 51 Tests — pure dominance.
As captain, he led Pakistan with authority and vision, crowning his career with the 1992 World Cup victory. Post-retirement, Imran transitioned from the cricket field to the political arena, continuing to shape Pakistan’s destiny long after hanging up his boots.
At 124 for 8, the match seemed lost, but VVS Laxman, battling a back spasm and batting with a runner, found an unlikely ally in Ishant Sharma. When Ishant fell with 11 runs needed, chaos ensued — Laxman shouted, gestured, and fought through pain as last man Pragyan Ojha scrambled singles. India snatched victory by one wicket, and went on to win the next Test in Bangalore to seal the series 2–0.
He was a flexible cricketer — batting anywhere from No. 2 to 6 — and an agile fielder. But at just 30, Cowper retired from cricket, moved to Monte Carlo, became a successful banker, and later served as one of the first ICC match referees.
From his record-breaking 6 for 26 against Kenya (2006) to his four wickets in the 2007 World Cup win over India, Mashrafe became the face of Bangladesh cricket. Despite frequent injuries, he reinvented himself as a leader — guiding Bangladesh to 50 ODI victories and making them a formidable white-ball side before stepping down in 2020.
Though he played only ten Tests and 24 ODIs, Dodemaide made valuable contributions to cricket off the field, serving as CEO for Western Australia and later Cricket Victoria, and eventually becoming Australia’s national selector.
New Zealand’s Kyle Mills and Shane Bond gave them early jitters, but Shane Watson’s calm century and a 128-run stand with Cameron White sealed a comfortable six-wicket win — restoring Australian dominance in ODIs.
Saurashtra were bowled out for just 79, as Rest of India lifted the title in emphatic fashion.
A reliable wicketkeeper but modest batter (average 14.73), he played only two Tests for England. His record 96 catches in 1960 still stands, and his 107 dismissals that year remain unmatched in county cricket.
He made his IPL debut for Rising Pune Supergiant in 2017, filling in for R. Ashwin, and soon earned his India caps in both ODIs and T20Is. Now a regular in the middle order for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Sundar continues to evolve as one of India’s most versatile young allrounders.
At county level, he was prolific — scoring 2,276 runs in 1990, a Glamorgan record. Later, he became a key cricket administrator, serving as the first Managing Director of the England team after their 2006–07 Ashes whitewash.
Qadir’s 11 wickets in the match secured Pakistan a 2–0 series win, with Greg Ritchie’s unbeaten 104 the lone resistance from the Aussies.
Despite such promise, he was inexplicably dropped and never played for India again — one of cricket’s enduring mysteries. He went on to become a successful businessman and remained active in Mumbai cricket circles.
Police restored order, but the damage was done — South Africa cruised to victory and sealed the series 2–0. The incident prompted stricter crowd control measures in Indian cricket venues.
